The Chalet Hotel, Arthurs Pass. Cafe, Restaurant, Hotel

The Chalet, Arthur’s Pass is a historic alpine café, bar, and guesthouse nestled in the heart of the Southern Alps.

Built in the early 1960s by Hans and Patricia Bohny, The Chalet was inspired by their shared love of the mountains and alpine hospitality.

Hans was a Swiss ski instructor, alpine guide, carpenter, and stonemason. Patricia was a New Zealand nurse, musician, artist, and storyteller. Together, they created a warm and welcoming place that captured the charm of the Swiss Alps and the spirit of New Zealand’s mountains.

After being closed for a decade, The Chalet is undergoing restoration, while preserving its original Swiss character, offering good food, warm spaces, and a familiar welcome for locals, travellers, and mountain lovers passing through.
